Truth, horror and style

In anticipation of the DVD release of The Black Dahlia on Boxing Day, I would like to register here my reason for not going to the theatre to see that movie. It is because of this book, Black Dahlia Avenger by Steve Hodel, which I bought just prior to the movie’s theatrical release. (Like many, […]

No-panda-ray

This enigmatic little phrase–”no-panda-ray”–should be part of our Canadian history but is not. I hope to correct that. It all depends on whether I can get a witness and participant to that historical moment, a modest fellow, to go on the record.

By way of visual intro

Here’s a pic taken in 1994 of me with a funny sign on East Hastings in Vancouver.

I was robbed by two men

The federal ‘three-strikes’ legislation is slagged as an American knock-off
When Justice Minister Vic Toews introduced Bill C-27 in the House of Commons, he ignited an expected firestorm. “Unconstitutional!” “Mob rule!” the Liberals shouted. His bill, amending the Criminal Code provisions on dangerous offenders, will change the law so that any person convicted of a third […]

Taxation without representation

Given the UN’s track record, a new global airline tax may resemble giving car keys and alcohol to teenage boys
Disarray–that was the word used to describe the end of the last session of the newly established United Nations Human Rights Council. On Friday, Oct. 6, the council halted its proceedings because it couldn’t agree on […]
